Private Bali Holiday
I usually go to the Philippines for my
holidays, mainly because that is where the missus is from, but
next holiday we are going to Bali.
I don’t know how many of you who are reading this have been
to the Philippines, but if you have and you have relatives
there you will know what I mean when I say that it is not a
holiday, it is hard work. You can’t go anywhere without taking
the whole clan with you, then you have to pay for everyone, for
everything, and then you have all of side trips so that they
can do the things that they could have done without you being
there, but they never got around to it until you got there, or
is it that they only got around to it because you were
paying.
Then there is the pollution, my wife has been living in
Australia for 20 years and she gets sick every time we go to
the Philippines, mind you, the provinces are great, they are
relatively pollution free, but the few days that we stay in
Manilla each time really affects her.
Then there is the corruption, everyone there complains about
the government being corrupt, but in my opinion the corruption
starts from the bottom and goes all of the way to the top.
Even the cigarette sellers on the street have different
prices for their products, and these prices are determined
by how much the vendor thinks that you can afford.
My brother in-law didn’t vote for Gloria at the last
election but after all the dust bali-sight-seesettled, and the
investigation into the cheating was completed, he said that he
liked her because she went on TV and admitted that she cheated.
I said that if she cheated she should resign but he says that
she is a good woman because she admitted cheating so she can
stay there. I can’t follow the logic, but it seems that it is
ok to cheat if you admit to it, and there will be no
recriminations. So all said and done, I think that it is time
to go somewhere else, hopefully somewhere that is clean,
pollution free, and somewhere that we can truly relax.
I have been reading about Bali on the Internet, and talking
to some friends who go there regularly, they highly recommend
it. I think that I can handle 2 weeks of , shopping, being
waited on hand and foot, and watching my wife enjoy a stress
free holiday. She really needs the rest more than I do.
The last few months she has be totally consumed with the
planning of our caravan park, trying to raise the funds, find
the workers, getting the permits, etc. Now the tragedy of the
death of her daughter in-law, she really does need to get away,
and clear her head. We need to go somewhere that we don’t know
anyone, and don’t have to please anyone other than ourselves.
So Bali here we come, one day.
